Ho Chi Minh faced many problems whilst coming up. He was a founding member of the French Communist party but he was expelled from France 1923. He later went to south China in 1924 and recruited other Vietnamese exiles to communism under the title of “Communist Youth League of Vietnam”. Other leading members were Pham Van Dong and Vo Nguyen Giap. This group later became the Communist Party of Indochina. This party was repressed after an uprising in 1930-1931.

He was shortly imprisoned in Hong Kong before returning back to Vietnam to build the Communist Party against the French. He went back to China and founded the Vietminh Front. Later he returned back to Vietnam in secret to recruit Vietminh guerrilla fighters so they could fight the Japanese. After defeating the Japanese, Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945 where he became President until his death. He was respected by those whom he freed of the control on the French.

Ho Chi Minh had helped bring an end to the Cold War by working together with the US. He led the Viet Minh to help defeat Japan whilst working with the US. The surrender of the Japanese had happened on August 15, 1945, and the Viet Minh had taken control of northern Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh created a government and he had hoped that the United States would support him.

But the US viewed him as a threat since he was communist and tried to stop him from spreading communism. That was how the Vietnamese was had started. The Americans had started a war that they entered with confidence but left with terror. It was their first defeat in history. It affected many people and to this day people are affected by that war. It is remembered as a war that had taken the lives of so many people and it did not have a reason in the end. People were dying for no reason and money was being spent on a useless war.
